septic field, painting, and power

French drain oh là là, carrying water away, keeping soil porous

warm colour above, thanks to the help of loved ones, no longer stark white

perfect from afar, closer defects can be seen, soon to be repaired

Ray, our neighbour with the bulldozer, got our septic field laid out.  we need a French drain around the septic field to carry the natural water away so the ground won’t be saturated during rainy spells.  Ray got that finished as well.  it would be neat to make a little stream or pond where the French drain ends…another project for the far off future!  quite a few more trees had to come down in the field, but the big hardwoods were left.  since this area will get more sun now i think i may put the garden near here.  anyone have any experience with raised garden beds?

this weekend my wonderful family (thank you Dad, Mom, Jessica, and Linda!) came to help me get the ceilings painted.  now i won’t have to worry about getting paint speckles on our furniture when we move in.  i’ll start priming and painting the walls once we’ve moved in the house.  i’m thinking (a bit wishful, perhaps) i can get the walls painted in a week.

the stucco is “finished.”  i phrase it that way as there are many repairs that need to be made.  several places have the metal lath showing through the stucco, many places have stucco on the wood trim, and the front has two spots where there are noticeable gaps between the stucco and trim.  the stucco guys are supposed to come back out and fix these issues.  the place that bothers me the most is on the front porch above the door as that is what you see each time you enter the house.

we now have power!  saturday, the electrician got the lights working in all the rooms and the outlets working in all rooms but the bathrooms.  it feels like a house now.  soon we will get it to feeling like a home.
